On Chinese Modernization from Two Dimensions

　　This year is the first year to fully implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. What did the first lesson say in the first year and what is its significance?

　　On February 7th, a seminar for new members of the Central Committee, alternate members and leading cadres at the provincial and ministerial levels to study and implement Socialism with Chinese characteristics Thought of the Supreme Leader in the New Era and the Party’s Twenty Great Spirits was held at the Central Party School (National School of Administration). General Secretary of the Supreme Leader delivered an important speech, focusing on "Chinese modernization".

　　Speaking on "the first lesson of the new year", the general secretary made it clear at the beginning: "It is a major theoretical innovation of the twentieth National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the latest major achievement of scientific socialism to put forward and elaborate the Chinese modernization theory in depth." As we all know, Socialism with Chinese characteristics Thought of the Supreme Leader in the New Era is a major theoretical innovation of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. The two major theoretical innovations come down in one continuous line and are integrated into one. The most important relationship between the two is that Socialism with Chinese characteristics Thought of the Supreme Leader in the New Era has provided a fundamental basis for Chinese modernization.

　　There are two dimensions to observe Chinese modernization. First, look at it vertically — —

　　Chinese modernization does not fall from the sky, but has its inevitability. Since its founding, our Party has shouldered the heavy responsibility of exploring China’s modernization road. The new democratic revolution period "created the fundamental social conditions for modernization", the socialist revolution and construction period "laid the fundamental political premise, valuable experience, theoretical preparation and material foundation for modernization", and the new period of reform, opening up and socialist construction "provided the Chinese-style modernization with a new dynamic institutional guarantee and material conditions for rapid development" … … Every important stage lays the foundation for promoting Chinese modernization.

　　It is particularly worth mentioning that since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, our Party has successfully promoted and expanded Chinese modernization, and further deepened its understanding of the connotation and essence of Chinese modernization. At the same time, Chinese modernization is constantly enriched in practice. There is a universally recognized case that eliminating absolute poverty and building a well-off society in an all-round way provide a more perfect institutional guarantee, a more solid material foundation and a more active spiritual strength for Chinese modernization.

　　Over the past decade or so, China’s GDP has successively crossed the mark of 60 trillion, 70 trillion, 80 trillion, 90 trillion, 100 trillion, 110 trillion yuan and 120 trillion yuan, and its economic aggregate ranks second in the world. From a per capita perspective, China’s per capita GDP has risen from $6,300 in 2012 to $12,741 in 2022, and people’s living standards have greatly improved.

　　Turning over the Party’s Report to the 20th CPC National Congress, the bright future of Chinese modernization is desirable: basically realize socialist modernization from 2020 to 2035; From 2035 to the middle of this century, China will be built into a prosperous, strong, democratic, civilized, harmonious and beautiful socialist modernization power.

　　Look horizontally again — —

　　There is no one-size-fits-all modernization model in the world. Chinese modernization not only draws on and absorbs all outstanding achievements of human civilization, but also is deeply rooted in Chinese excellent traditional culture. General Secretary of the Supreme Leader clearly pointed out in the first lesson of the first year: "Chinese modernization has broken ‘ Modernization = Westernization ’ The myth shows another picture of modernization, expands the path choice of developing countries towards modernization, and provides a Chinese plan for human exploration of a better social system. " This conclusion profoundly explains the significance of the times and the world orientation of Chinese modernization.

　　Modernization in western developed countries is a "series" development process, with industrialization, urbanization, agricultural modernization and informatization developing in sequence. China’s modernization is very different from that of western developed countries, and it is a "parallel" process, in which industrialization, informationization, urbanization and agricultural modernization are superimposed.

　　From the characteristics of Chinese modernization — — We insist on "thinking, making decisions and doing things from the national conditions, neither aiming too high nor sticking to the old ways", "persisting in realizing people’s longing for a better life as the starting point and the end result of modernization", "promoting the all-round enrichment of things and the all-round development of people", "unswervingly following the civilized development path of production development, affluent life and good ecology" and "seeking self-development while firmly safeguarding world peace and development"

　　Carlos martinez, a British political commentator, said that "Western modernization is imperialist modernization", while China is carrying out "peaceful, sustainable and just" modernization, which is a valuable contribution to the collective understanding of mankind. Chinese modernization "shows the world that there is more than one road to modernization".

　　Up to now, there are no more than 30 industrialized countries in the world with a total population of no more than 1 billion. The modernization of China’s population of more than 1.4 billion will be an unprecedented event in the history of human development, which means that China has broken the myth that only the western model can realize modernization.
